SinterCast AB reported that series production for its metallurgical process control technology hit 4.0 million “engine equivalents” during the April-June 2024 period, or 200,000 metric tons – an all-time high in second quarter results for the compacted graphite iron production process. Following a comparably historic high-production volume during the first quarter of this year, SinterCast reports production during the first half of 2024 rose 13% from 2023, up to 3.95 million engine equivalents or 197,500 metric tons.
The new result also extends SinterCast’s number of consecutive year-over-year quarterly increases to thirteen – more than three years.
The Stockholm-based company is the developer and licensor of the world’s most widely used technology for producing compacted graphite iron, CGI. The lightweight ferrous material is in demand by automotive and industrial engine manufacturers for its high tensile strength, stiffness, and fatigue strength that is greater than gray iron or aluminum.
SinterCast CGI process technology is in place at 57 locations in 13 countries.
Along with licensing the control process, SinterCast supplies metalcasters with sampling cups used in CGI production. During Q2 2024, shipments of the consumable sampling cups total 56,700 (49,700) units shipped. Overall, sampling cup shipments during the first half of 2024 totaled 101,300 units, a 23% year-over-year increase.
“With quarterly production records in both of the first and second quarters, and strong consumables sales, we have established a positive foundation for the second-half of the year,” stated SinterCast president and CEO Dr Steve Dawson.
