Cymat Technologies Ltd. announced the receipt of a purchase order from a "major U.S. armored vehicle manufacturer" for 13 SmartMetal assemblies to be delivered this month. These prototypes will be incorporated into, and tested as part of, a complete armoring system for the proposed vehicle.

The manufacturer will test these parts for a next generation military vehicle. "It is anticipated that this testing program could lead to a full commercial vehicle contract, thereby further validating SmartMetal as a key component in future survivability solutions within military vehicles," said Tim Hardman, president of Cymat.

Previously, Cymat was honored by the Canadian Dept. of Defense with a preproduction development award for the blast mitigation material in March. The stabilized aluminum foam technology was approved by Georg Fischer AG based on a prototype automotive part.

"Cymat continues to collaborate with major military OEMs and integrators by engineering SmartMetal into their survivability solutions," Hardman concluded.
