Canadian manufacturing group Linamar Corp. completed its acquisition of the GF Casting Solutions iron foundry in Leipzig, Germany, from Georg Fisher. The €45-million (or about $53 million) transaction was announced in October and reported final on December 31.
“The facility has great technology, continues to build on our diversification, hosts an excellent team, and is within close proximity to some of our Linamar European facilities,” CEO Jim Jarrell stated. “This acquisition will also drive both revenue and income growth, and will enhance our Linamar family.”
The Leipzig foundry is a ductile iron operation with a pouring capacity of 300,000 metric tons/year and 300 employees. The plant is specially equipped to produce “machine molded” ductile iron parts - according to GF statements, it has the largest molding box in Europe - as well as 3D printing of sand for prototyping and sand cores. It also has casting coating, CNC machining, and assembly services.
At the time of the announcement, executive chairwoman Linda Hasenfratz stated the Leipzig foundry “provides excellent technology in large ductile iron castings to help Linamar build up our on- and off-highway commercial vehicle business, a key growth tactic for us this year.”
Linamar restated its claim that the completed purchase is “immediately accretive” to its earnings.
Linamar is also in the process of acquiring the Aludyne lightweight automotive casting group.
Georg Fisher continues the sell-off of its GF Casting Solutions organization. It has a deal in place to sell most of that organization to Nemak, while still holding a ferrous casting plant in Kunshun, China, and two investment casting and additive manufacturing plants, in Romania and Switzerland.
"This divestment marks another milestone in GF’s transformation into a Flow Solutions company," Georg Fisher CEO Andreas Müller stated in July 2025. "It underscores our commitment to focus on our core business, while securing continuity for employees and customers of the iron foundry under Linamar."
