Grede to Supply Navistar Engine Components

July 9, 2010
MaxxForce 7 parts to be produced at two foundries, machining plant
Grede Holdings LLC will supply engine components to Navistar Inc. for its 2010 MaxxForce 7 V-8 turbodiesel engines, according to a new multi-year contract. The value and length of the contract has not been detailed. The MaxxForce 7 is an updated version of the 6.4-liter Power Stroke engine that Navistar has supplied to Ford Motor Co. for its Super Duty trucks since 2008. The engine block is cast in compacted graphite iron, and the 2010 version to be launched this summer will use dual sequential turbochargers. It will be installed in Navistar’s International trucks and buses, among others. Grede indicated the contract is its largest per-truck content award. The components will be manufactured at Grede’s Wauwatosa, WI, and Iron Mountain, MI, foundries and Menomonee Falls, WI, machining operation. Grede also supplies ferrous castings to Navistar for various other truck parts from its Briscoe, NC, and lost foam castings from its Columbiana, AL, foundries. “It is critical that Navistar has engine components for its Maxx Force 7 that can achieve durability and reliability requirements while, at the same time, meet stringent fuel economy and clean air standards,” said Vito Parente, Grede’s vice president, sales, Heavy Truck and Industrial. “Grede has a long-standing relationship with Navistar and is pleased to partner with them on this important new engine. We were selected as a supplier because of the value we provide in product development, our comprehensive manufacturing experience and past performance, having won the Diamond Supplier Award from Navistar in 2009 and 2010.”
