Matchplate molding and sand-casting technology developer Hunter Foundry Machinery Corp. recently named Peter J. Li as its new president, the third since its founding in 1964. Hunter Foundry chairman Bill Hunter announce the appointment March 15, in Schaumburg, IL.
Mr. Hunter called Li “exceptionally qualified” for the position, adding, “We know he will lead Hunter into a bright and prosperous future.”
Hunter Foundry Machinery was established in 1964 by Al Hunter, who pioneered the automated matchplate molding machine concept and held dozens of patents for foundry machinery. Chairman Bill Hunter is likewise a developer of sand molding and mold handling process technology.
Hunter Foundry manufactures machinery at plants in Chicago and Shanghai, with a global network of sales agents.
Peter Li joined Hunter in 1996 as a sales engineer. In 1998, he was promoted to regional sales manager, Asia Pacific, and in 2000 he became general manager of Hunter Shanghai. He was appointed managing director, International, in 2016.
Li is a graduate of Shanghai Jiaotong University with a B.S. in Foundry Engineering. This was followed with an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Oklahoma State University; and doctoral study in the PhD Metallurgical Program at the University of Alabama.
Before joining Hunter, Li worked as a metallurgist for Presto Castings, Phoenix.
“Our challenge for the future is to keep an open mind and remove restrictions on our thinking about the foundry business,” Li commented. “The most successful companies in our industry have automated and that bodes well for Hunter matchplate molding machinery, automated mold handling equipment, and the advanced software we bring to our customers worldwide.”
