Ohio Foundry Marked for Closing

Parker Hannifin plant casts iron components for hydraulic gear pumps

Cleveland-based Parker Hannifin Corp. reportedly will phase-out operations at a iron foundry in Youngstown, OH, by early 2013, affecting 50 workers there. A company spokesman said continuing the operation is “not an economically viable option” for the manufacturer of motion and control technologies and products for commercial, mobile, industrial, and aerospace markets.

The foundry produces components for Parker Hannifin’s Gear Pump division, which manufactures single, multiple, piggyback, and thru-drive assemblies for hydraulic gear pumps.

The plant’s output will be re-sourced from another operation, and some workers will be offered new positions at Parker Hannifin’s Mobile Cylinder division, also in Youngstown. Other workers will be offered severance packages.

The foundry formerly operated as Commercial Shearing Corp. Parker Hannifin acquired the plant’s former parent company, Commercial Intertech, in 2000.
