Bodine Aluminum Inc. will be the object of an $8.4-million investment to increase production of transmission cases and housing parts by more than 320,000 units annually. The expansion projects, which have not been detailed, will take place at Bodine’s foundries in Jackson, TN, and Troy, MO, and result in approximately 20 new jobs.
The new capacity is projected to be in operation the end of 2012.
The news was announced by Toyota Motor Corp. as an extension of its plan to increase production of six-speed automatic transmission at Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia Inc., its engine and drivetrain manufacturing plant in Buffalo, W. Va. That $64-million project will increase TMMWV’s output to nearly 400,000 transmissions annually.
Bodine Aluminum is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota, having been acquired in 1990. Its St. Louis foundry casts engine brackets and carrier covers. The Troy, MO, foundry manufactures cylinder heads and cylinder blocks. Bodine’s Jackson, TN, foundry produces aluminum cylinder blocks and automatic transmission parts.
