Oct. 28, 2013
Students with internship experience earn financial backing

Each year, the Investment Casting Institute awards several scholarships to college students who have successfully completed internships with ICI member companies. During the ICI’s 60th Anniversary Conference and Expo in Pittsburgh earlier this month, four students were named the to receive this year’s scholarships. The awards are based on students’ academic performance, work quality, experience and the expressed desire to pursue a career in the industry.

The value of the scholarship awards was not announced.

In addition to the regular scholarships, the ICI made a special award presentation to a student in honor of the late Hank Harvey.

Duane H. “Hank” Harvey, the former president of Tech Cast LLC in Myerstown, PA, and director of the Institute, had been instrumental to the development of the Intern Scholarship Program.

Marie Hornack, a senior at Cleveland State University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, received the Hank Harvey award.  She conducted an internship at Avalon Precision Casting, a ferrous and nonferrous investment caster in Brook Park, OH.

The other scholarship winners honored at the Conference are:
