US-Built Metal 3D-Printing System
MELTIO is introducing its U.S.-assembled Meltio Robot Cell directed-energy deposition (DED) system for wire-laser metal additive manufacturing. DED is well established and widely used for production of metal parts needed by industries around the world to reduce costs and shorten lead times.
Industries in the Americas such as automotive, defense, aerospace, mining, energy, and oil-and-gas, among others, have seen an increase in the need for metal parts manufacturing in recent years and increasingly are relying on Meltio’s metal 3D-printing technology for manufacturing and repairing industrial parts.
The Meltio Robot Cell is a turnkey wire-metal additive manufacturing solution to boost the performance of an industrial robotic arm in a safer, more reliable, and highly accurate way by controlling the entire process, including slicing software, Meltio Space.
“Meltio’s main commitment with the launch of the Meltio Robot Cell assembled in the United States is to offer all types of industries the ability to manage the entire manufacturing process using our metal 3D-printing technology, consisting of a Meltio head integrated into a robotic arm and in a safe environment, in order to produce parts at the point of need and at the time of need,” according to Alejandro Nieto, product manager.
Nieto added: “This solution allows the customer to receive a product ready to use for robotic metal 3D printing and reduces all the transportation costs. This new hardware system allows the customer to receive a cell for robotic metal 3D printing, removing the integration process and long assembly lead times. The Meltio Robot Cell has a specific area for every supply the cell requires daily; only connecting to the inert gas and electric supply is enough to start manufacturing.”
The Meltio Robot Cell is compatible with Meltio’s open hardware platform, allowing integration of the metal 3D-printing head with industrial ABB robot arms.
The system provides a spacious work area and build volume designed to meet a wide range of manufacturing needs. It combines the capabilities of Meltio’s metal 3D-printing head with autonomous operation, supported by integrated monitoring and safety features for industrial environments.
The robot and positioner are installed on a self-supporting platform within a laser-safe enclosure.
The system also integrates the Meltio Engine, Meltio Space, and all necessary accessories, providing a complete solution for industrial metal additive manufacturing.
Meltio Robot Cell is designed as a plug-and-play package, requiring only a single electrical power connection and a single inert gas supply. It is designed to operate in standard industrial environmental conditions within a controlled, indoor environment.
