Re-Engineered Hanger-Type Blast Machines

Economical abrasive surface-treatment in flexible overhead monorail layout

WHEELABRATOR re-engineered and upgraded its HTS series hanger-type blast machines so that the systems are more applicable to the requirements of less demanding, light- to medium-duty castings and forgings, but maintaining high reliability and durability. HTS series machines offer economical blasting of a variety of castings, forgings or heat-treated parts in highly flexible overhead monorail (reversing Y-rail, closed-loop through-feed) layouts.

The machines integrate seamlessly into existing workflows and can cover a broad range of handling requirements.

HTS series machines operate with a rotating hook, running on a monorail, carrying individually hung parts: it ensures every individual workpiece is efficiently exposed to the abrasive from all sides. This conserves abrasive media and guarantees first-time pass rates of evenly treated parts.

The new machine design includes additional options to downsize blast wheels; select a screw conveyor rather than a screen vibratory conveyor; and introduces "deselect" functionality for features not needed for lighter tasks, thereby substantially lowering investment costs.

A re-design of the blast cabin and lining (allowing for more cost-effective manufacturing) and of the cabin door and control cabinet further reduce the machine cost. The blast cabin, door, and replaceable cabin lining are formed in manganese steel, delivering long service life and low maintenance requirements.

Machines in the HTS range feature powerful, 11- to 15-kW U70 (direct-drive) blast wheels for machines with two blast wheels, and 15- to 22-kW each for machines with three and four blast wheels.

The blast pattern has been optimized to achieve higher blast efficiency and ensure economical use of abrasive. A combined magnetic and air separator ensures the perfect condition of the abrasive mix.

The machines can accommodate workpiece ‘bunches’ in a 1,100X1500-mm circle diameter, at a hanger height of 1250 to 2100 mm.

The maximum hook load ranges from 800 to 1500 kg. The number of hangers circulating may be customized to individual requirements by choosing from several overhead monorail configurations.
