When the situation warrants, design for manufacturing (DFM) principles can be used to help determine whether the chosen casting process and material are the most cost effective for the casting geometry and specification — a useful capability for those metalcasters who are full-service providers and offer, or outsource, other fabrication methods in addition to casting.
