Inductotherm Earns Large-Scale Order for Melting Systems

Fagor contracts for 15-MW, 10-MW, and 8-MW installations

August 1, 2006 -- Fagor, a producer of automotive components and other industrial products, and a part of Spain’s Mondragon Corporacion Cooperativa, has placed an order with Inductotherm Europe Ltd. for a series of new melting systems. The contracts involves several Inductotherm VIP Dual-Trak melting systems, sized at 15 MW, 10 MW, and 8 MW, which will be installed at foundries across Europe producing gray and nodular-iron components for regional automotive OEMs.

Inductotherm calls this “the world’s largest order for furnaces,” and notes that the 15-MW power unit incorporates two 20-metric ton furnaces and the MeltMinder 200 control system. It will be the largest Dual-Trak system ever installed.

The VIP Dual-Trak system applies power to two furnaces simultaneously to increase metal throughput in batch operations by 20% or more at the same power rating, compared with a single-output power unit, to optimize power efficiency.

“The modular construction of the VIP Dual-Trak approach enables Inductotherm to produce larger and larger power units from standard components, keeping development costs to a minimum,” stated Inductotherm Europe sales manager David Heavey.

Inductotherm Europe will build the furnaces in England and install and commission them by the end of this year.
