GM Powertrain Returning to Full Production
Laid-off workers at GM's Saginaw (MI) Metal Casting operation began returning to work last week, as the automaker prepares to resume full production of engines. Read more

Expansion Planned for Casting Technologies
Casting Technologies Co. plans to expand manufacturing and renovate its headquarters in Franklin, IN, according to local reports. Casting Technologies is a squeeze-casting and VRC/PRC operation that produces lightweight, near-net shape automotive components. Read more

Volvo Powertrain Orders Heat-Treating Furnace
Volvo Powertrain recently placed a contract with LOI Thermprocess for a new rotary-hearth furnace for gas carburizing of transmission parts, to increase process capacity at its Kping plant in Sweden. Read more

Coal hard truth
It was inevitable that coal would be the next commodity to present a crisis, and for U.S. ferrous foundries the coal crisis is underway. Domestic foundry coke manufacturers claim to be pinched by global coal-supply shortages, but that's not persuasive to the steel casters who've been hit with upward price adjustments. Read more
