Victaulic Buys Utah Ferrous Foundry

April 10, 2023
Horizon Metals is an iron and steel foundry for large, complex castings – adding more capacity for large-diameter pipes, for infrastructure and waterworks markets.

Victaulic, a producer of ductile iron castings for its own brand of mechanical pipe and flow-control products, has acquired Horizon Metals Inc. in Nephi, UT, for an undisclosed price. The Utah operation becomes Victaulic’s fourth U.S. foundry, expanding its capacity for manufacturing large-diameter pipe castings for infrastructure and waterworks projects.

The other three U.S. foundries are in Alburtis, Easton, and Lawrenceville, PA. The group also operates iron foundries in Chihuahua, Mexico; Dalian, China; and Drezdenko, Poland.

Horizon Metals Inc. is a family-owned and operated foundry established in 1992 and operating in Nephi since 1997. The “low/medium volume, high-mix production” operation produces complex castings weighing up to 4,000 lbs., and its capabilities include tooling design, process simulation, heat treatment, and CNC and manual machining.

“A major aspect of Victaulic’s business strategy has always been to manufacture products in close proximity to our customers,” according to president and CEO Rick Bucher. “Like our Tennessee Metal Fabricating Corporation acquisition last year, the purchase of Horizon Metals demonstrates our continuous commitment to this strategy by expanding our growth and service capabilities to our valued North American customers.”
