Bingham & Taylor Files WARN Notice

Nearly 100 workers are affected by the company’s planned closure at the gray iron foundry in Culpeper, VA, in November.

Bingham & Taylor will close its Culpeper, VA, ferrous foundry later this year, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing with Virginia Works, the commonwealth’s workforce development agency.

The May 21 filing indicates the closing will happen on or before November 30, affecting all but a few of the 92 employees there.

The federal WARN Act regulations require employers to provide notice at least 60 days in advance of high volume layoffs or plant closures. According to the WARN information provided to the state, the reason for the closures is a company restructuring.

“The company will make every effort to assist impacted employees and coordinate with the Virginia Rapid Response team to provide transition assistance to the employees. In addition, eligible employees will be offered the opportunity to participate in a stay incentive program, subject to the applicable terms and conditions,” according to its statement in the WARN filing.

In November 2025 Bingham & Taylor was acquired by Charlotte Pipe and Foundry in a private transaction. That combination was expected to expand Charlotte Pipe’s portfolio water and gas infrastructure and distribution products.

The announcement does not indicate the reason for the closing, but a local report explained that Charlotte Pipe has determined the foundry represents excess capacity. The work will be consolidated at Charlotte Pipe in Oakboro, NC, the report added.

The Culpeper plant is a gray iron foundry that casts meter and valve access products, including boxes, lids, and pits. Bingham & Taylor has a separate operation in Fredericksburg, VA, that produces plastic-injection and blow molded products, and is not affected by the planned closing.
