SinterCast reported its Q3 2026 series production results for compacted graphite iron reached an annualized rate of 3.25 million “engine equivalents,” or 162,500 metric tons, up 19% over the comparable period of last year. “The positive momentum strengthened toward the end of the quarter, with September recording the highest monthly production level over the last 25 months,” according to the company’s statement. It indicated that rate represents an annualized production rate of 3.8 million engine equivalents (that is, 190,000 metric tons.)
Stockholm-based SinterCast is the developer of the most widely used process control technology for foundries producing compacted graphite iron, a lightweight cast iron that offers greater tensile strength, stiffness, and fatigue strength than gray iron or aluminum. It currently has 58 foundries in 13 countries licensed to use its process technology to produce CGI.
“The 19% year-on-year increase in the third quarter marks another important step in our return to sustained growth in existing programs. Particularly encouraging is the momentum toward the end of the quarter,” according to Dr Vítor Anjos, president & CEO. “These improvements reflect the ramp of existing programs and the growing order book we have seen among the major commercial vehicle OEMs as market demand recovers.”
SinterCast reports quarterly and annual production volumes as “engine equivalents”, each one equal to 50 kg, in recognition of CGI’s relation to automotive, commercial vehicle, and industrial engine manufacturing. The results are also presented as “annualized rates,” rather than actual volumes.
The group’s customers also use its consumable sampling cup as part of the CGI production process. It reported Q3 sampling cup shipments increased 80% compared with the third quarter of 2025.
“The 80% increase in sampling cup shipments confirms that the activity is translating into real production across our customer base,” according Anjos. “The combination of recovering market demand, new program launches, and new business opportunities, including promising field trials gives us strong confidence in the continued growth of our series production.”
