Steelmaking Group Buys Green-Sand Foundry

Nov. 30, 2021
Aarowcast – a Wisconsin producer of gray and ductile iron castings – will be an operating unit of Charter Manufacturing, a producer of carbon-steel long products.

Aarrowcast Inc., a green-sand foundry in Shawano, WI, has been acquired by Charter Manufacturing for an undisclosed price. The buyer is a producer of carbon-steel bar, rod, and wire products, headquartered in Mequon, WI.

“This acquisition expands our metals manufacturing offerings and will increase diversification of both our customer base and end markets,” according to Charter Manufacturing CEO John W. Mellowes.

Family-owned Charter Manufacturing consists of Charter Steel (carbon and alloy steel bar, rod and wire production, and steel coil processing); Charter Wire (cold rolled and shaped wire); Charter Automotive (cold forming, stamping, and machining); and Charter Dura-Bar (continuous cast iron bars.)

The foundry produces up to 50,000 tons/year of ductile and gray iron castings for agricultural equipment manufacturers, government and defense contractors, heavy truck and industrial equipment builders, pumps and valves, compressors, and railroad products.

It has approximately 290 employees.

Aarrowcast will be rebranded as Charter Aarrowcast, and president and CEO Randy Brull will continue to lead the business. “We are committed to a long-term investment in Aarrowcast’s capacity and capabilities, and driving positive outcomes for its stakeholders – employees, customers and the greater Shawano community,“ Mellowes stated. “We’re excited about what lies ahead.”

“Becoming part of Charter Manufacturing is a good strategic and cultural fit for Aarrowcast,” Brull said. “Both companies are passionate about metals manufacturing and are committed to customer service, product innovation and growth. We are excited about working together and what the next chapter will bring.”
