The Minnesota ferrous jobbing foundry is installing a Sinto America flaskless molding system, with a process analytics package.

Pier Foundry & Pattern Shop in St. Paul, MN, ordered a new Sinto America FBO-IIIS molding machine, together with a mold-handling system and Sinto Analytics package. Pier Foundry is an ISO-certified supplier of gray, ductile, and austempered ductile iron castings, for agricultural equipment manufacturers, machine and industrial equipment parts, pumps, valves, transmission components, and comparable applications.

In recent years Pier Foundry has undertaken several capital projects to ensure sustainability and position itself for growth. The first phase focused on environmental health and safety programs, including air-quality and ergonomic improvements to promote employee safety. The next phase will focus on improving production efficiencies, process reliability, and increasing production capacity.

Pier Foundry also will be adding Industry 4.0-related process evaluation via the Sinto Analytics package.

Sinto's FBO series flaskless molding machines are available in various mold dimensions, and designed with safeguards against the shifting of molds. Operators are able to vary the molding height, which effectively adapts the mold size to the to various pattern profiles. The average maximum molding rate is 130 molds/hour.

Sinto is set to deliver equipment by September 2020, with a production start date of October 5, 2020.

“We are excited for the new molding center and having Sinto Analytics is going to help ensure the system continues to operate as designed,” according to John Dulaney, Pier Foundry sales and operations manager.
